Who Cares About Tiger?

Posted in opinion, sports with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on December 4, 2009 by wesshock

Really. Who cares? He’s a sports hero and famous and super rich… Did anyone actually expect that marriage to last. Furthermore I think the wife is at fault for whatever emotional distress she is feeling. Why you ask?

Because he’s Tiger Fucking Woods. And I didn’t realize this until today but apparently she married him after he stopped being Tiger Woods, and added that telling middle name “Fucking”. She married Tiger Fucking Woods, sports God – rich man – who travels extensively – and is admired by millions – and expected a faithful monogamous relationship? This only further illustrates why I choose not to involve myself with the weaker sex. I kid, or do I? (cont’d below)

Now granted she’s hot. But the best piece of ass is a new piece of ass. Am I right, or am I right?

So to conclude – Once again the story is not interesting or fascinating – but the obsession of the country over it is. Tiger Woods cheated on his wife. Shocker! He can have almost any non-prude single girl (and probably a lot of the married ones) simply by asking.

In my opinion music today is all and all (there are exceptions) just frivolous crap. Granted there has always been a bunch of bullshit on the radio, but sometimes it just seems like the ratios of quality to crap are turned upside down throughout most of my life. I mean there has got to be a reason why radio stations still play stuff from the 60s and 70s but you almost never see stations dedicated to the late 80s – early 2000s. As I said, it’s not because it isn’t out there anymore but the dumbing down of artistic expression has led us down the road of impossibility when it comes to someone who isn’t marketed for a specific market being able to make it onto the airwaves with a fair shot at success.

Okay maybe I shouldn’t say crap. Meaningless? Non-artistic? Cheesy? Lacking Substance? Purely for entertainment? But in reality the reason is this : music (in the artistic composition sense ,just isn’t as good. Blame consumerism, blame video and the superficiality of the public, blame the discovery that 15 year old girls hold the key to record and merchandising sales , blame the growth of the corporate monoliths… Blame all of it! But I just wonder what kind of shit-storm has to hit this country to start producing music that isn’t engineered in some studio somewhere with 15 year old girls in mind and where an ugly person with a good voice can make it big…. dammit! (this is not to say i don’t like some pretty tragic music myself)

In a world of Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and whoever those guys are that I hear… It really makes me wonder if the idea of music video killed country music even more so than rock music.

The thesis of my statement follows via video clip.

So… A sampling of how much better things used to be :

And even if you want to push the definition…. there is southern rock – which was just amazing and probably produced some of the best songs in the modern era (just my opinion) :

Gay Guy : I thought you guys were taking me to dinner?

Frank : Come on! Who doesn’t like to watch a naked woman swing around on a pole?

Gay Guy : A gay man for one.

All : Huh?

Gay Guy : I’m gay.

Mac : No! You’re so big and tough. You do not come across as gay.

Frank : You do not look like a gay guy.

Dennis : That’s cause he’s a bear.

Mac : Huh?

Dennis : Yeah he’s a bear. You see some guys are twinks and other guys are bears. This gay guy is a bear, and by the way we’re totally cool with that. To each his own.

Frank : Wait, Wait. I’m a little confused here. What’s a twink?

Dennis : A twink is small and slend like Mac.

Mac : Oh no, I’m too muscular. I would be a bear.

Dennis : I don’t think so, bro. Not hairy enough.

Frank : Yeah. Smooth. Now, I would be a bear.

Dennis : No, see I don’t think you’d be a bear either. In fact, I don’t know what you’d be cause you’re definitely not a twink.

Frank : I’d be a top, that’s for sure.

Dennis : Maybe.

Mac : Can a twink be a top? Or is that reserved for bears?

Dennis : I’m sure there is a great deal of switching back and forth but I think more often than not bears are tops ; unless they happen to be power bottoms.

Frank : What’s a power bottom?

Mac : A power bottom is a bottom who is capable of receiving an enormous amount of power.

Dennis : No, Mac you’ve got it backwards, you see a power bottom is actually generating all the power by doing all the work.

Frank : Does the power have to do with the size of the strength of the bottom?

Mac : Now I’ve heard speed has something to do with it.

Dennis : Speed has everything to do with it. You see, the speed of the bottom informs the top how much pressure he’s supposed to apply. Speed’s the name of the game, right buddy (looks at Gay Guy) ?

Memories

I was feeling a bit nostalgic and going over some music from my school days …. Ahhhh Memories.

And Finally One Lesbian-Loved Song To Make Rome Feel Happy :

If you have any more suggestions and were passed the 90’s in your formative years feel free to suggest! Nothing like a trip down memory lane.

This Is America.

So Adam Lambert kissed a guy at 11 and change at night on network TV. Who the hell gives a crap?! Personally I saw it on youtube the following day before Dick Clark Productions got all crazy about their ‘rights’ (though I suspect the controversy had more to do with it being taken offline). But when i saw it online I really did think it was overtly sexual – however – not overly sexual, at least when compared to what is generally deemed okay nowadays at 11pm.  I’ve got news for you America – Sex is not Immoral. Maybe inappropriate for younger viewer (who shouldn’t be up so late), but just cause whatever nasty sex act you’re witnessing is not your cup of tea doesn’t make it immoral. I certainly don’t think it’s hot when you and your significant other do some of the crazy kinky things you do either.

Oh No! Two Dudes Kissing.

I mean for real folks, the fact that he had his hand massaging the outside of some girls vagina is actually kind of more obscene than the gay-kiss. Though I suppose there was always the mock-gayllatio.

Oh No! Two Girls Kiss

Ewww scream millions of straight men and Christians across America.  Well here’s a news story – Just because you think it’s gross doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t air. Trust me, there are whole networks devoted to depravity and immoral things that I disagree with and ya k now what I do? I don’t watch them. Period. And if I had kids, I wouldn’t let them watch it either – especially not at 11pm on a school night. Now I suppose there is a certain age where 11pm isn’t too young to be up that late, in which case, I think it’s probably also an appropriate time to have a talk about different people and actions sexual and otherwise – make it a learning experience for Christ’s sake.

In any case – here’s what I think it boils down to : for as much as Christian-Right/”Moral” America say that America’s moral fiber is being taken away and they are losing “their” America – they are just incredibly wrong. America has never been this moral paradigm of selfless christian devotion. It was always a farce and people are finally just doing what they have always done in public instead of hiding it inside the white picket fences – and they’re not apologizing for who they are. So get over yourselves America and let Adam Lambert sing and be the queeniest sexually outward homo he wants to be and if capitalism is allowed to work – let the masses decide whether or not what he does is appropriate. Something tells me that all these horrifying actions will only make him more popular. And if you think it’s gross or icky – too bad – here’s a video for you:

Reflections : Italy.

Posted in life in motion, memories, opinion, reflections with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 24, 2009 by wesshock

It’s been about half a year since my last European vacation and I’m just now writing about it. I wanted to wait and see what memories really stuck with me after the novelty of the trip wore off before I commented on the things worth mentioning.

I packed up my things and set off for a late April road trip through Austria into the northern half of Italy and into Switzerland. It was somewhere I had never been and had always wanted to go and I was doing it with a great friend of mine I hadn’t seen in ages : Jan.

The Dolmides Drive

Our first stop was more of a pit-stop really as after a day of flying for me and driving for Jan we just needed a break, so upon entering Italy we stopped in Bolzano, Italy (German: Bozen).

Bolzano, Italy

This town was a German-Italian mixed community in the Dolmides Mountains region of northeast Italy. The town itself was quaint, high in the mountains and beautiful, but we would quickly learn that everything in Italy is beautiful – this beauty only to be matched by wherever our next stop would take us. Bolzano was nice : we did some walking around , drank some local chocolate beer and had a horrible breakfast at our Gasthaus. After about 24hrs though we ran out of things to do and it was time to move south.

Verona to Venice

Our next stop was Verona where the next memory included taking in the second largest Coliseum in Italy, doing some walking around medieval fortresses and most interestingly eating a local delicacy : Horse. Horse meet, in my humble opinion, is not so great. Save your time and money before listening to Fodor’s and checking

Po River Verona, Italy

out the local horse meant cooked up in gnocchi in Romeo and Juliet’s hometown. The Coliseum on the other hand is definitely worth a stop, as is the historic part of town which has been re-vamped as an upscale shopping area.

Next stop : Venice. Venice was nice. I’m not really sure how I feel about the city itself. We only stayed for a day and a half including Easter. The beautiful aspects of Venice were beyond belief : The Canals, The Architecture, The Gondoliers, and all the things that everyone expects from a Venetian visit. Venice also offered me my first taste of a truly amazing, reasonably priced Italian dinner : Something that would quickly become the norm. It seems that if you take your most high scale Italian restaurant in the states, the quality of food of

Grand Canal Entrance, Venice Italy

any small maw and paw Italian place is going to be equal to it. That said the negative aspect of Venice is that the people who live within the city limits are usually very wealthy and after years of foreign tourists coming into their city, getting drunk, and being loud all night – the city council has banned venues from operating late – so essentially the entire city lacks a nightlife. The only exception being the amazing drag queen that attracted a huge crowd in one of the lesser known piazzas of the town with his/her voice. The other exception being the club I went to where unbeknown to me at the time I got to enjoy the musings of Arisa singing her hit “Sincerita”. I had no idea at the time but learned later this was at the time one of the biggest songs in the entire country –  so I guess I was lucky? or something.

Rome

Rome is fascinating. I’m not really sure where to begin – in fact I think sometime this weekend I’ll write a separate posting just about Rome, because there is so much going on there it doesn’t really fit in with the rest of this brief rundown.

Rome By Night

Toscany

From Rome we moved north, each morning stopping to enjoy our espresso, cigarette, and optional pastry (the Italian breakfast). We drove through the countryside and I have to say that Tuscany has to be among the most beautiful places that I’ve seen first hand. It’s right up there with Hawaii, and the Big Sur area of California. Even while focusing on going 150km/hr in a foreign car on foreign roads with cheesy European music playing in the background on a cloudy day you can’t help but realize how amazing it really is.

Relaxing In TuscanyToscana

Siena and Florence

Both beautiful places although Siena more so. Florence on the other hand has all the comforts and entertainment of a big city. Siena has too many Germans. Florence has too many Americans. Oh Man! Both are great and you should see them both. By the way, best steak I’ve ever had in Europe is the local Florentine style steak. It’s still not as good as American steakhouse steak however for Europe it’s pretty damn tasty – and the lasagna I got with it as a primo was better than my Mom’s lasagna which is saying something!

Florence :

The Jump – Varazca

Our last thing we did on the trip was goto Varazca Dam in Switzerland and after a night at theCasino in Locarno we woke up at 6am to go make the 220m jump in the early morning canyon drizzle.

The Video of the jump can be found following this link:

Thats it for now. I leave you with a constantly heard Italian song on our trip :

I like Sarah Palin…

Posted in opinion, politics with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on November 22, 2009 by wesshock

…and I’m not the only one. Clearly millions of Americans can utter that line and mean it as much as I do. I like her, seriously. I’m a liberal northeastern somewhat cerebral person who believes that Sarah Palin is likable. She is a strong woman who keeps on going despite what people say and feel about her, no matter how vicious and personal the attacks get. She just smiles in a way that seems to say “Fuck You” to those who would use cheap shots and sexist inclinations to attack her (although truth be told she would probably never actually say Fuck You – she’s above that). She is raising what seem to be quality children, who like all children make mistakes. She stands by her convictions and doesn’t take the convenient way out when it comes to something as profound as abortion or something as meaningless as not bad-mouthing Senator McCain outright. She has character. But, do I think she should be President? No. Do I think she could win against Obama? No. Do I believe she could even pass the test of the Republican Party primary? Likely not, but we shall see.

There are a lot of things Sarah Palin and I would probably agree on even when it comes to critical comments about our President and his policy. And I like President Obama generally speaking – though I sometimes wish he could grow a pair and stand up to his opposition both inside the party and out. But the fact of the matter is Sarah Palin has become exactly what she and Senator McCain’s campaign had often accused our current President of being : A Celebrity.

Sarah Palin is one of my favorite celebrities mind you. She has captured the middle class or more specifically “white middle America” in much the same way that President Obama did ”black and young America” or Paris Hilton had ”gay America.”  I suppose the biggest difference is that Paris Hilton never ran for office, although truth be told her viral campaign videos were more intelligent than any of the campaigner’s.  And as for our current President he did express a world view with ideas he planned, although so far has failed, to enact. This is where I fall off the Sarah Palin bandwagon.

So to Sarah, I say :

To say you’re just a normal American as you did on Sean Hannity during his interview love-fest the other night, is not accurate. You’re a woman who was a governor, a vice-presidential candidate, and now a best selling author (though you used a ghost writer) who has appeared on Oprah. There are Sarah Palin Halloween masks and Facebook fan pages with over a million members. All normal people have these things I am sure.

As you continue on your book tour promoting your book and meeting actual normal Americans you should really take note of what you are doing and allow it to change yourself and your disposition. Just because the Democrats are doing it , doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Learn that. Just because the polls show people are disheartened with the status quo of Congress, doesn’t mean that they want you to get involved in local elections in districts you know nothing about. There would be +1 Republican in Congress right now without you and the other Presidential hopefuls meddling.

The fact of the matter is that Sarah Palin, you are on a book tour doing the same thing every celebrity political or otherwise does in order to get some cash in their wallet. But you have to overcome the fact that the other presidential hopefuls right now are completing their governorships without resigning. They are working on issues, learning, and doing their best to navigate politics and serve their people -so far all the change you have effected is helping to elect a Democrat into a seat in New York. These are things you will have to answer for should you want to come back into politics. I and the rest of America will be watching – but before criticizing those in power of not doing enough how about you inform yourself of the issues, develop some ideas beyond disapproval of everyone in power, and present them to the masses. Then maybe I’ll change my mind…Maybe. But until then you’ll just be Sarah Palin, someone I like on a personal level and would happily let teach me how to kill a moose and make jerky from its flesh.

Sen. Bennet is right.

Posted in opinion, politics with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 22, 2009 by wesshock

What’s a Senator to do? I pulled the following off the CNN political ticker blog :

Washington (CNN) – A freshman Democratic senator said Sunday that he will support his party’s efforts to pass health care reform legislation even if that means losing his seat in next year’s midterm elections.

“If you get to the final point and you are a critical vote for health care reform and every piece of evidence tells you if you support the bill you will lose your job, would you cast the vote and lose your job?” CNN’s John King asked Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado on Sunday’s State of the Union.

“Yes,” Bennet bluntly and simply replied.

Bennet was appointed by Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter to replace Sen. Ken Salazar, who stepped down from the Senate to serve as President Obama’s Interior Secretary. Bennet, who was superintendent of the Denver public school system prior to his appointment, will have to seek election to the seat for the first time in 2010.

My question is what is the ‘right’ thing for a Senator in this case to do. In our representative republic is it put upon the Senator to follow the ups and downs of public opinion to the point that he or she votes against their conscience for or against something because the public is against it? Or rather is it supposed to be taken the other way : that the vote for this or that  issue was left up to the person regardless of polling because they were viewed as the more capable person to make these hard and sometime unpopular decisions?

I tend to think the latter is the truer nature of the position. The public is pretty easily swayed one way or another on the issues by the mass media and propaganda machines on both sides. In my view a Senator who says he’s more worried about the nation, regardless of whether you agree with him or not, than he is about public opinion polls and getting reelected is EXACTLY the kind of Senators of which our country is in dire need. Elections and the money they require are what is slowly taking away our democracy, in my opinion, maybe more people would be like Senator Bennet if only we could have term limits on those in the halls of Congress.
